I pay higher tax here in California. I live next to a park which is also a homeless camp and I have to  buy health insurance out of my own pocket.

I pay 25% and don’t get a quarter of the benefits their citizens have. Plus I pay deductibles, copays and premiums that far exceed the remaining seven percent.

The pension fund contribution is not a tax because it is still your money. You get it fully back with interests and with the employer contribution (about the same amount) when you move abroad or retire.

Church Tax is optional, can be waived without giving any reason.

Don't count the pension as a tax, it is deferred wages.

More clarification:
Pension contribution to the 2nd pillar isn't tax, that is yours even though it is mandatory and can vary depending on the employer.
Church tax is not mandatory.
Communal Tax can vary a lot the Zürich city is quite expensive.

Additionally, VAT is 2.5% for food and 7.7% for everything else. (which is much lower than in other European countries where it is like 20%.

Switzerland is also a DIRECT DEMOCRACY, and it has the highest per capita percentage of millionaires and the highest average net worth of any country on earth aside from the microstates of Lichtenstein and Monaco. I think they are doing something right.

My brother moved from America where all his family lives to Switzerland about 20 years ago for a job and hasn't come back. The must be something pretty great there to leave your original country and family behind.
