To remove Bermuda grass: put down cardboard and layer it thick, then top with mulch and keep it wet. Replace mulch as necessary to keep it looking good. I've done this successfully many times and can pretty much guarantee the results you desire. Plus, earthworms love cardboard and will travel to your garden to start snacking, then they'll move right in and start having families.

@Snakeskii

I lost my garden two years ago in a house fire and rebuilding is such a daunting task. A lot of folks near you are experiencing this as well. I'm seeing questions come up about removing toxins from soil and clearing ash, and I would love for y'all to do a deep dive on that, maybe even bringing in some experts. Losing my garden was losing a decade of time, and as gardeners we keenly understand how slow the process is to build things out and let it grow. Can you use cover crops to remove toxins from soils and make it safe to grow again? Can you eat fruit off of surviving fruit trees and berry bushes? If something is fire damaged will it recover? A million questions that we had in that situation that you could help people with, especially a few months or even a year or two from now as they are picking up their lives.

@lemonlizard1

If there's a way to do this, I would love an experiment that tests how much companion planting actually does (does it affect growth/yield, does companion planting flowers increase pollination etc.)

@stephtime

would love to see some day in the life videos, just the little weekly updates in your garden! maybe it would allow you to shoot some footage without talking!

@TrevorT2002

Bought my first plant, a blueberry bush, back in the fall and planning my first garden for this coming spring. I am so pumped

@vixwolf2037

Thank you so much for sharing your struggles and your strengths, it reminds us that we aren't all that different.

@gryphonrampant1

For cheap bermuda removal, best bet I know is to solarize. I've seen folks use black silage tarp, old conveyor belts, or durable plastic weed barrier fabric (the same sort folks use on the floor of their greenhouses). I know, I know, it won't look pretty immediately, but in gardening you can only pick two of fast, easy, and cheap.

@mdgen1862

Sorry for your chicken losses. I do love your chicken videos but I can understand how hard it is to lose one of your babies. Love the homesteading channel and hope it gets more love this year.

@aphillips5376

Love that you named your black chicken, Wednesday.🥰 I am also an organized gardener and like everything in order. My mother is more like Jaque with the natural design. We share a garden space. She has half the raised beds and I have the other half. You can definately tell which half is whose when the garden is in full swing😂

@simplifygardening

Wow! I cannot believe that it's been nearly 5 years since you bought this place Kev. So much achieved. Algea prob caused when you pushed soil or compost into the water adding a ton of nutrients that it didn't need. Aquascape pond wasn't it? Greg does some awesome ponds. Ill have to send you some pics of my Thai Its such a great Monstera. The outhouse will be such a cool room when its finished to hang out and keep the house separate. Such great idea for supporting the dragon fruits. the winds shouldn't pull the bases out of the ground. Stress grabs us all at some point mate, you have tons on your plate, its important to make the time for yourself too. Great video mate

@2mustange

I am sure you know this already but use a vinegar concentrate to kill grass. In a 2 gallon sprayer use 16oz of 75% vinegar concentrate, then add half a gallon of 45% vinegar concentrate, fill with water, and use dish soap as a binder. On a warm day go out and spray the bermuda. This will likely need to be done a few times due to how bad it is but vinegar at least doesn't sit around for long and is soluble with water

@audreyrichards6725

I openly scoffed when you said ruggable is “pretty cheap rugs”. I’ve been saving up for one for over a year now 😭 had no idea till now just how different our lives actually are

@SkylarHayes

For the pond, i recommend adding some type of grass/bog plant at the top as it goes down the waterfall. From my aquaponics experience, the algae will go away if your plants eat more of the nitrates. Water chestnut(bog), lemongrass, and watercress are all good options for that. Love the 2025 goals thanks for sharing!

@Gardeningchristine

I love that we’ve traveled this garden journey together. 👩🏼‍🌾🪴You’ve been so helpful. I also bought my home in 2020 and have since put in 8 raised in ground beds and 10 tall raised beds, 7 fruit trees, several perennials, trellises, containers all over my front porch, and in the winter south facing windows and grow lights! It’s been a great adventure my friend!

@emkn1479

Not Filipino but I have been wanting/needing that second fridge! Would help so much with large harvests.

@jonestraloma

10:45 “I’m back!” I know exactly that feeling! Lol Welcome back, kababayan! You should take a trip back home some day. Write it off as a business expense. I can connect you with a catfish farmer who grows catfish in his large back yard pond in Pampanga near Angeles City. He has a nice little farm with native peppers growing randomly and one of the last working carabao around. Just a tour of that place would make a great video.

@kimlaplante8146

Are you growing Korean Green Plums? You can preserve the green fruit by making a syrup. Very tasty in drinks and korean cuisine. Also good health benefits.

@Nanalovesselena

My tomato harvest was not that huge in 2024 either. 2025 Be a better yr

@ximenapereira1742

Thank you for teaching us and sharing your homestead with us. I have been watching you since 2020 and just recently moved to Germany, and seeking inspiration for a garden.
I’m sorry about your chicken. May she rest in peace.
