@intervention6330

I do think these prices come largely from people who want to play the original version. I myself for example play on original hardware because I did it since I was little and Pokémon has the ability to trade Pokémon across cartridges and generations which gives you a small personal network to trade between your games

@bmooresaxy

People buy them to play for sure. And then people hold onto them because people get attached to the save files(ie me lol)

@Yintendo64

The reason I want these old Pokémon games so bad is simply for the ability to transfer Pokémon I catch in those games up to current, when I play on an emulator I don’t get as attached to my team as I would in a legitimate copy.

@damian9303

Imagine seeing those sold listings and one you bought shows up 💀

@NaibSubedar

Playing on a rom and playing on an original GBA are vastly different experiences. I love Pokémon emerald, have played it multiple times on rom, but the few times I’ve played it on a GBA were just so much more fun

@j0taman888

I paid like 30 bucks for a copy about 5 years ago, didn't know they ran for such high prices in the US

@Paradoxyne

It’s not only collectors, I buy a lot of older and more high-demanded games simply just to play them

@Insanity1245

If I had the money I would prefer the original hardware due to specifically emerald rng manipulation to make getting competitively viable pokemon much easier. Also it's just nice to have the physical Gameboy to play, rather than an emulator

@boo453

I think the fact you can still transfer Pokémon caught in these games up to the recent versions is a big factor, you can't do that officially with emulator. there's challenges in Pokémon home to get Pokémon from these (eg obtain kyogre from rse), and there's exclusive ribbons that confer special titles in later entries.

There's lots of shiny hunters who own multiple copies of the old games, and want their stuff to be legit so wouldn't use emulator

@PokeFangOfficial

Nothing beats the real thing. I still have an old crt tv to play N64 and PSX. The original hardware experience is unmatched.

@paisleyfire4678

-Had leaf green as a kid which I dumped mad hours into as well as Pokémon Colosseum because I only had a gameboy and GameCube growing up.

-Struggling single mother parent sold it plus my gameboy (for good reasons)

- kept my silver GameCube from my dead father (he’s more of a donor instead because he was a dead beat) and the copy of Colosseum.

-Grown up now and decided to get all the Pokémon games I wanted from when I was a kid; because little me never had a lot.

-Now have insane Nintendo game collection with n64, GameCubes, snes, gameboys, ds, 3ds, as well as Dreamcast stuff.

-Handhelds are modded with everything too.

-have doubles of things such as Pokémon emerald and platinum because I’ve lost track of what I’ve already got in the collection, also some game deals are to good to pass up on so I buy the games even if I’ve got it already.

-little me would be happy. Only do it for little me.

@blastoise3568

This is the equivalent of buying soap and not washing your hands with it

@andyfritter

I got my emerald back in 2017 for FREE because I won a giveaway on Facebook

@cityrat3237

Scalpers really ruined things, ever since the pandemic a lot of collectibles have sky rocket in prices and scalpers and resellers are to blame. That’s why NEVER feel bad for finding a way to scam a scalper or reseller.

@Mane7g

Damn and now it’s selling for 200+ dollars 😢 I want a copy of the original

@octaneswagg

The guy wearing the balaclava head movement 😂😂😂😂😂

@angelguz6244

There’s some Pokémon that can learn Tms you can’t get in future games

@11usapyon

I remember that my grandma found this retro game store near our home county so one day she goes to it and there are people playing DND, retro games, and just having a good time. Back in April 2020 (when this took place) she saw a genuine Pokémon emerald at a decent price with only some minor scratches on the front of the cartridge. It turns out that she also bought me a Zelda themed GBA SP to go along with it, I loved it so much and couldn't stop thanking her. To this day I only have two Gameboy games, Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon Crystal, which I got just this last Christmas from my mom.

@griffintgm9467

Personally, I just can’t enjoy a gen 3 game the same if isn’t on the classic cartridge

@ItsEmul

Unlike emulation, playing the gen 3 games on a DS can allow you to send the Pokémon to the gen 4 games. Then from 4 to 5. From 5 to 6. And from there you can send Pokémon to BANK then HOME.
