More love for Alocasia 'Frydek' here. I bought mine as a tiny two leaf plantlet. Fast forward a couple years, it is now three feet tall with a huge spread of many leaves. Even non-plant people really gravitate towards the emerald greens of this plant when they enter my apartment, glossing over the other large specimen plants in favor of this one.
Frydek for sure is one of my OG and favourite forever. But 2 recent additions were Jacklyn and Brancifolia. Both very unique looks.
So far, I have the best luck with alocasia's over all other "fancy plants". For the record I have very low light in my apartment, but have had great success with Alocasia. I do use some plant lights, but my set up has a lot to be desisred. Top Three: 3. Regal Shield (large and in charge, fast grower). Quite forgiving. 2.Frydek - it's absolutely stunning. I stare at it every day. The dark velvety leaves with the crisp white veining is so eye catching. 1. Alocasia Pink Dragon. It is the heartiest healthiest most prolific plant I have ever had. I absolutely adore it's waxy wrinkly leaves, bright pink stems, and all the little babies it pops out! It is always surprising me with flowers and how large and broad the leaves become.
My favourite alocasias of all time: 1) Alocasia platinum (bisma) 2) Alocasia scalprum - just looove those spiky leaves 3( Alocasia watsoniana <3
I think the Alocasia Scalprum would make a lovely addition to your goth plant room! It's so stunning and also hard to put in to words. It feels a bit like plastic, has gorgeous veins and is super dark with dark purple stems. I just can't stop looking at mine :)
Zebrina reticulata is high on my wishlist! So beautiful.
AHHHH FINALLY AN ALOCASIA VIDEO!!! I cant wait to watch this, my first tropical "exotic" houseplant was a Yucatan Princess and at 3 years old its MASSIVE and so impressive. They're fantastic plants!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
I was so excited to see an Alocasia favourites video pop up. I love the variety of Alocasias, so much so that I now have increased my collection to 23 this year. It's really hard to pick a top 3, so I'm going to give my top 6 and a wishlist Alocasia. 1) Alocasia Shattered Glass which has the most unusual flecked variegation on glossy green leaves. 2) Alocasia Platinum because I'm a sucker for anything platinum, plus it's by far my easiest to care for and grows consistently. 3) Alocasia macrrorhizos Plumbea has dark, dark leaves that in the light has a range of beautiful colours and veining. Also, the stems are an amazing plum colour that contrast with the leaves beautifully. 4) Alocasia heterophylla Dragon's Breath again has silvery, platinum leaves in the most interesting shape. 5) Alocasia Dragon Moon, which has rugged, silvery, shimmery leaves in the light. Just a stunning plant to look at. 6) Alocasia Scalprum is another easy Alocasia. The leaves size up really quickly, have an interesting shape with lots f texture to them, and are a stunning, glossy green colour. Wishlist Alocasia - Alocasia Golden Dragon. This one you have to see to understand my obsession with adding it to my collection. It's just breathtaking. Thanks for another great video πππ
My top 3 - and yeah, those are some tough picky plants!! 1. Totally agree - black velvet! Mine is happy as can be, def easiest 2. Rugosa "melo" - love the crazy texture on it! 3. African mask! My daughter has one that is doing really well! Love going g to her house and checking it out!π
In the States, they've been dropping the silver dragon at walmart now! My fav is a tie between frydek and cuprea. I love how the cuprea opens up looking like an alien bug. My zebrina reticulata won a blue ribbon at the county fair this year. β€
My top 3: 1. Pink dragon πππ 2. Zebrina (black Stem) It looks soππ elegant 3. Frydek Variegated π
I love my stingray, I got it half eaten to death by spider mites at a garden center and the moment I gave it a little bit of TLC it came back full force and now it's 3.5 feet tall. I got SO MANY corms out of him.
I am constantly wondering wtf bog-standard is. lol I have finally looked it up. The proceeded to look up the history of the βwordβ. I am now educated on it.
So glad your top one was black velvet! That was my first alocasia, as its readily available here in Australia, and still my favourite. Frydek is a close second for me - I had a big boy but something happened to it :-( so I will need to get another. Stingray would be number 3. Had one but that died, too, so another I'll need to replace. I do struggle with alocasia... just think I haven't found the right spot for them.
I just recently got a massive Cuprea that satisfies my spooky vibes for the season and complements my Black Velvet really well. I'm hoping I can keep them happy through the winter.
My personal favourites are Alocasia infernalis (black magic), Alocasia brancifolia and Alocasia purple cloak. All three of them are so underrated!
I absolutely love your YouTube channel and energy, thanks for being so wonderful β€ always brightens my day
I just received a Azlanii π itβs a baby so just has light pink veining at the moment. Black velvet was my first alocasia and love her big and beautiful. I finally did also get Frydek, I bought 2 babies to make a fuller plant. Also the Green dragon scale is a recent buy. These for sure are my top 3. I am still wanting a Jacklyn π
What you called a Frydek is actually called Alocasia Micholitziana. The Frydek is technically the variegated version of the Micholitziana. Either way, both are my absolute, ALL TIME FAVORITES!!! Put them in pon in a self-watering pot, and in general room lighting (i.e low light in my house) and it thrives! π₯°π₯°π₯°
