Nice shots! It may be too much trouble to carry more gear but we used to use 2 stools for event video . One to stand on and one only for the camera tripod/monopod, this really helped reduce any camera shake caused by operator.
Great video ! Love it . Last week I was able to check out the lens ! WOH , it blowed my mind away ! Thx for all the information about the lens ! TOP !
I've found one of the biggest benefits of the Nikon Z system is the image stabilization. It's the best I've ever used. Sport mode VR is great when both you and the subject are moving. It gives a very smooth view through the viewfinder (or the rear screen), and allows you to get so many more sharp shots compared to similar setups with DSLRs. I use it with a monopod to shoot triathlons and wildlife, and my hit rate is so much higher with this system. Best of luck to you, and thanks for your sharing your experience. Enjoy the new lens!!
Those photos look amazing! And to have the opportunity to photograph Ring performing?!?! I'm so happy for you & can't wait to see more photos with it.
I'm so Jelly! I cant wait for my 180-600!
Hy Boston, thanks for your enthusiastic video. I am also a Nikon fan (started with FM2). I own a Z180-600 and use it for sport photography. Beside of their internal Zoom I love the incredible image stabilisation. Ok. It’s not a lightweight, but with the incredible image stabilisation you can (with some training) use it down to 1/30 handheld. (I dont like monopods, and you get the vibrations of the floor) For concert photography I love the much better light measuring of the Z (over the D4), specially with fast changing light situations on concerts. – with the Z6 II you have the best to get good pictures with high iso. Looking forward for more concert pictures.. ;-)
Nikon does make the best glass IMO, especially for the Z line. I currently own a Tamron 150-600 G2, currently using on a Z6ii and Z7ii (via the FTZii). I also used to use that lens on a D7200 and got some fantastic photos with that combo. I will someday get the Nikon 180-600 Z it does look like a fantastic lens for bird photography in my case. BTW there are pros and cons with an internal zooming/focusing lens. Pros - lens is always the same length, better balancing on a tripod/gimbal, less chance of dirt or moisture getting inside the lens. Cons - front group of the lens is always at the longest focal length - the zoom group pulls back to the shorter focal lengths internally. What I like about my Tammy is that at 150 mm it can easily fit in my bag. But, I suspect IQ will be much better with the Nikon lens on a Z camera. Side note - I have a 2003 vintage F lens 70-200 f/2.8 ED VR - it's a beast too (and the type of lens for "concerts", as they say) - almost as heavy as the 150-600! It too is internal focusing/zooming so it's always the same length, but it takes up a lot of room in my bag - but hey f/2.8 at 200mm! Takes great pics on the Z6ii/Z7ii. Looking forward to your unboxing.
I have one now and I have it on my Nikon Z50 camera. I got it on eBay for $1600. I have to use a bipod because my hands are too weak. I’m very impressed with the quality of the pictures. Your pictures turned out great. ❤❤❤ I would very much to see more pictures like that in low lighting conditions. Thanks for sharing your photos and videos with us. ❤❤❤
Never expected to see a video about it on concerts :D
I have a Z 7 and a half dozen Z lenses. I hope to get the 180-600 in a few months. Have lots of fun with lens and all.
You are so cool! Fellow Nikon Z user here in NYC. You have a new subscriber, and I found your IG account too :-). Judging from the stuff on your wall you're super passionate about music and musicians - rock on!
You’re tempting me!
Hi Boston, with your z6II, you should be able to crank up your ISO to at least 5000 or more. This will allow you to use a faster shutter speed so you don't get blurry pictures. Although, motion in some photos does give a cool effect. Try a high ISO. I'm sure you'll get amazing results. You can always add noise reduction in lightroom. Hope this helps :) PEACE and long live rock n roll!!
Owning both a plastic stool like the one you showed and an aluminum 2-step ladder, I prefer the aluminum one for stability.
Once yours comes in it'd also be great to see if you take it out to shoot some nature photos (like the flamingo)!
You lucky little girl...I pre-ordered my Z 180-600mm lens just like that one you have 2 weeks after they pushed it out to pre-order and I STILL don't have mine. Kinda starting to get a little pissed off but I guess I will wait another week or so to see if it ever comes. Thanks for sharing...I used to shoot concerts as well. The Dead, Allman Brothers, etc... Have fun...Peace
You may want to bring up shutter speed a smidge. That is the rule of thumb but the image stabilizer should be doing it’s job . Maybe 1/320 (or whatever the 300 range is). Not sure what ISO you have to shooting at but the z6 has the better dynamic range of the Z cameras with the unfortunate cost of resolution (for cropping). Maybe try underexposing a bit just as a experiment and use the histogram to make sure you aren’t clipping too much, and being up the shadows in post. I have the Fuji 150-600 for crop sensor and I sometimes have to play with the idea of underexposing because of the limitations
This lens paired with the Nikon Z6II is a match made in heaven.
If you finally buy this lens then consider the LEOFOTO MPG-01 little head for your monopod using it by turning the lens-foot 90'... Works like Gimbal...
