Desi Murgha ya Dal? Lahore Food Tour with a Twist | Pakistan Street Food

In this special episode from Lahore, I team up with two of my foodie friends – Ali Rehman and Saad Raja – to explore some of the city’s most iconic and unique local flavors. Lahore is known for its rich food culture, and in this vlog, we dive deep into the heart of its street food and traditional dishes that define its culinary identity.

Our journey begins with Ali Rehman as we head to a popular local spot serving Lahori Chana Kofta – a flavorful fusion of soft koftas soaked in spicy, slow-cooked chickpeas. This traditional dish, rich in desi masalas and cooked over hours, truly captures the essence of Lahore’s home-style comfort food. We pair this with freshly baked Till Walay Kulchay – soft, sesame-seed-studded kulchas that are a Lahori staple and perfectly complement the spicy chana.

Next, we visit the relatively new but quickly rising eatery Karachi Delhi Haleem, which is gaining attention for bringing authentic Karachi-style haleem to Lahore. The haleem here is thick, well-blended, and full of deep meaty flavors – a perfect mix of wheat, barley, lentils, and slow-cooked beef, topped with traditional garnishes like crispy onions, lemon, and green chilies. A must-try for haleem lovers.

Later, I meet Saad Raja and together we explore the legendary Jattay Ki Dal – a simple yet soulful dish that has become a favorite among locals for its earthy, buttery taste. Cooked to perfection, this lentil dish is both hearty and satisfying. We also try their Desi Murgha, a traditional country chicken curry cooked with robust spices and a thick, flavorful gravy that sets it apart from commercial chicken recipes.

From street-side setups to modern takes on age-old recipes, this food tour offers a delicious glimpse into the evolving yet deeply rooted food scene of Lahore. Each dish has a story, each flavor a tradition, and every bite a reason to fall in love with this city all over again.
