Russia has begun refurbishing T-62 tanks from the 1960s and sending them to Ukraine as modern losses mount. On June 27, 21 of these tanks were observed being transferred to the Eastern Military District. Since February 2022, Russia has reportedly lost 10,980 tanks—nearly 10 per day.
With modern production limited to 260–300 tanks per year and new T-90Ms plagued by critical malfunctions, Moscow is relying on outdated armor to fill the gap. These T-62s are being used not for dominance, but as expendable assets to absorb Ukrainian firepower and maintain a fading illusion of strength.
