After discussing the laboratory of the future and the convergence of environmental and clinical data for human health and wellness, Dr. John Sinard, Medical Director, Pathology Informatics at Yale University School of Medicine, sat with Clinisys to talk about the tangible benefits anatomic pathology laboratories are realizing that justify the expense of implementing a digital pathology program.

Dr. Sinard discussed how the interest in going digital is supported by real-world benefits. He noted that healthcare systems looking to provide a single standard of care across their networks can benefit from scanning AP slides and viewing them remotely, instead of moving slides between health network locations.

Another benefit justifying the case for digital pathology is the use of artificial intelligence in pathology. Even though there are hurdles to overcome before DP can be used diagnostically, AI has captured healthcare leaders’ attention and has made hospitals and healthcare institutions realize they need to build the infrastructure to use technology to meet their future needs.

Dr. Sinard was filmed onsite at the Clinisys Customer Summit, held March 13 to 16, 2023 in Frisco, Texas, where Clinisys leaders, keynote speakers, and industry experts discussed the convergence of laboratory informatics across clinical and environmental disciplines and projected the pathways necessary toward the lab of the future.
