You know the saying, always take the scenic route 🛣 We are big fans of this and driving along roads that showcase the beauty of this amazing country we live in.

Recently, during our visit to Oudtshoorn, we drove through the Swartberg Pass on our way to Kimberley and we were mesmerised by the beauty of the entire drive. It took us almost 2 hours to drive the 27 km road because we made basically 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩! It was entirely worth it though as we embraced the mountains, views and sky above us at every bend and corner.

What is so breathtaking about this pass is how the landscape shifts at each patch. There are moments when you are driving through the red rocks, sometimes you are surrounded by skies with views of valleys and mountains afar and at other points you are just driving towards something transfixed in the distance. It’s all surreal, making one appreciate the sense of being.

There are 𝟰 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 you make an intentional decision to break at and admire the views (all have fairly obvious parking spaces, since the road is narrow):
1️⃣ The first stop is a pole with stickers on it. It comes quite soon after the official start of the pass, and we could already feel the beauty in that landscape as you watch a panoramic view of the mountains. (Continued in the comments)
